The Medicine Bag was used to hold items that provided protection from evil spirits.  Within Suqpiaq/Alutiiq culture, when an infant was born the amniotic sac was dried by the midwife and placed into an amulet or medicine bag and then placed around the infants' neck.  It provided reassurance and protection for the infant.

The tiny beluga whale bead is ceramic.  There is a tiny metal sand dollar on the bottom of the pouch.

The pouch is made from olive green satin and a turquoise mesh overlay.  There is dark green speciality yarn for kelp.  The coral was created with a salmon/pink varigated embroidery thread.

Glass seed beads in various colors of clear, blue, pink and greens are used for the necklace chain, "sand" on the bottom of the pouch and trim.

The pouch is 2 1/2" long and 2" wide.  Total length of necklace 15 1/2" inches long.  There is no clasp.
